Aibano - Aebano

Japanese: 饗庭野 - あえばの

A diluvial plateau on the west shore of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. It is also called "Aibano." Its elevation is 200-250m. Its area is about ^38km2 . It is part of Takashima City. It is a lakeside terrace made of the Paleo-Lake Biwa Formation that was deposited on the bottom of Lake Biwa during the Pleistocene, and riverside terraces have also developed along the Azumi River. Its water supply was poor, so development was delayed. In the Edo period, it was called Kumano Mountain and was a common grassland. It has a history as a military site, having been used as a training ground for the Japanese Army before World War II, and by the US Army and then the Self-Defense Forces after the war, and is currently a Self-Defense Forces base. In 1885, the baseline for the triangulation survey of the Kinki region was established here.

滋賀県，琵琶湖西岸にある洪積台地。「あいばの」ともいう。標高 200～250m。面積約 38km²。高島市に属する。更新世に琵琶湖の湖底に堆積した古琵琶湖層からなる湖岸段丘で，安曇川沿いには河岸段丘も発達。水利が悪く，開拓は遅れた。江戸時代は熊野山といわれ，共同採草地。第2次世界大戦前は日本陸軍の演習場，戦後はアメリカ軍，次いで自衛隊に使用されるなど，軍用地としての歴史があり，現在は自衛隊基地。 1885年近畿地方の三角測量の基線が置かれた。
