A king referred to as "Gog of Magog" in chapters 38-39 of the Old Testament's Book of Ezekiel. He attacks Israel, but is destroyed by God's miraculous intervention. Magog is interpreted as "the land of Gog," but was later considered to be paired with Gog. In chapter 20 of the New Testament's Book of Revelation, both are deceived by Satan and attack the saints and God's city on the last day, but are cast into the lake of fire and sulfur by God. Gog has had a mythical and apocalyptic coloring since the earliest times of the description, as the representative of the forces hostile to Israel and God in the northernmost land around the Black Sea.
