Also known as aquatic plants. A general term for plants that grow in water. Includes all emergent plants (those that grow near the shore with the lower part of their stems or roots submerged in water, such as reeds and cattails), floating-leaf plants (those that grow at a depth of 1-2m and have leaves that float on the surface, such as water chestnut and horse chestnut), submerged plants (those that are submerged in water at a depth of 2-10m, such as hydrilla and eelgrass), floating plants such as duckweed, algae, and phytoplankton. In general, nutrients and other substances dissolved in the water are absorbed through the surface of the body. In addition, many of them have poorly developed roots and well-developed aerial tissue. Due to their various physiological and ecological characteristics, aquatic plants are considered to be plants that have returned from terrestrial life to aquatic life.Water plants [Mizukusa]Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
