Born: July 28, 1804, Landshut
Died: September 13, 1872, Rechenberg, near Nuremberg. German materialist philosopher. Known for his criticism of Christianity. Belonged to the left wing of Hegelian philosophy. Studied at the University of Berlin and was strongly influenced by Hegel. In 1828 he became a lecturer at the University of Erlanger, but in 1830 he criticized Christianity in his anonymous essay Gedanken über Tod und Unsterblichkeit (Reflections on Death and Immortality), and was expelled from the university in 1832. After retiring to Bruckberg, he lectured at the University of Heidelberg for a time (winter semester 1848-49), but spent most of his time writing about Hegelian philosophy and criticism of Christianity. His main work Das Wesen des Christentums (41) had a great influence on Marx, Engels, and others.

Died January 4, 1880. German painter from Vienna. Nephew of philosopher L. Feuerbach, he was a representative of German late classicism. He entered the Düsseldorf Academy in 1845, studied in Munich and Paris, and then stayed in Italy from 1855 to 1873, where he was influenced by the works of V. Titian. He served as a professor at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1873 to 1876, and visited Italy again, but returned to Vienna and died there. His major works include "Iphigeneia" (1862, 1871), "The Battle of the Amazons" (1869-1873, 1874), and a portrait of his mother-in-law, H. Feuerbach.

ドイツの画家。哲学者 L.フォイエルバハの甥で,ドイツ後期古典主義の代表。 1845年にジュッセルドルフ・アカデミーに入学,ミュンヘン,パリで学んだのち 55~73年にはイタリアに滞在,V.ティツィアーノの作品から影響を受けた。 73~76年ウィーン美術学院教授をつとめ,再びイタリアを訪れたがウィーンに戻り死亡。主要作品『イフィゲネイア』 (1862,71) ,『アマゾンの戦い』 (69~73,) ,義母の H.フォイエルバハの肖像。
