A former town in Nukata County in central Aichi Prefecture. It is part of the Mino-Mikawa Plateau and has a strong agricultural and mountain village character. Rice and dairy farming are practiced, and tea and shiitake mushrooms are also produced. Silica and granite are also mined. The scenic Kuragari Valley is located on the Oto River, a tributary of the Yahagi River. Incorporated into Okazaki City in January 2006. 160.27 km2 . 9,539 people (2003). 愛知県中部，額田郡の旧町。美濃三河高原の一部をなし，農山村的色彩が濃い。米作，酪農を行い，茶，シイタケも産する。ケイ石，花コウ岩の採掘も行われる。矢作(やはぎ)川の支流男(おと)川に景勝の闇刈(くらがり)渓谷がある。2006年１月岡崎市へ編入。160.27km2。9539人（2003）。
