A former town in Nukata County in central Aichi Prefecture. It is part of the Mino-Mikawa Plateau and has a strong agricultural and mountain village character. Rice and dairy farming are practiced, and tea and shiitake mushrooms are also produced. Silica and granite are also mined. The scenic Kuragari Valley is located on the Oto River, a tributary of the Yahagi River. Incorporated into Okazaki City in January 2006. 160.27 km2 . 9,539 people (2003).
