A town in Kitagunma County, central Gunma Prefecture. It occupies the eastern foot of Mt. Haruna, with the Tone River flowing south along its eastern edge. The main settlement is Shimonoda. Since the completion of the Gunma Irrigation Canal Haruna Main Line in 1969, land reclamation has progressed. The former sericulture industry has been converted into greenhouse vegetable cultivation and livestock farming. Grapes and dried potatoes are also produced.
