A former town in Shikama County, located in the upper reaches of the Yumesaki River in the central-southern part of Hyogo Prefecture. In addition to rice farming, the town also raises chickens. Mount Setsupiko (915m), which towers in the north, was once one of Japan's three great mountain ascetic training grounds along with Mount Hiko in Kyushu and Mount Yahiko in Echigo, and is now known for its rock climbing. In March 2006, the town was incorporated into Himeji City along with Iejima Town in Shikama County, Koji Town in Kanzaki County, and Yasutomi Town in Shisō County. Area: 146.22 km2 . 兵庫県中南部,夢前川上流域を占める飾磨(しかま)郡の旧町。米作のほか,養鶏などを営む。北部にそびえる雪彦(せつぴこ)山(915m)は九州の英彦(ひこ)山,越後の弥彦山とともに日本三彦山と呼ばれた修験道場で,現在はロッククライミングで知られる。2006年3月飾磨郡家島町,神崎郡香寺町,宍粟郡安富町と姫路市へ編入。146.22km2。2万1791人(2003)。
