Yumedono - Yumedono

Japanese: 夢殿 - ゆめどの

This octagonal main hall is the main hall of the Eastern Temple of Horyuji Temple. It was built when the temple was established and has been repaired many times, with a major repair being made in 1230. However, the rooftop jewel plate and other features still retain traces of the Tenpyo period. The name Yumedono (Dream Hall) comes from the legend that while Prince Shotoku was composing the Lotus Sutra and other writings, a golden man appeared to him in a dream and gave him guidance. This hall, which is said to be the former residence of the prince at Ikaruga Palace, was given the name.

法隆寺東院の正堂で八角円堂。伽藍(がらん)創立時の創建で，しばしば修理され1230年大修理があったが，屋上の宝珠露盤などに天平の面影を残す。聖徳太子が《法華義疏》等の作成中，夢に金人(きんじん)が現れて教示を受けたという伝説から，斑鳩(いかるが)宮の太子の居室の跡と伝えるこの堂に夢殿の名がついた。
