[Born] 14th year of the Kakei Era (1809) [Died] 1874 A Chinese thinker and politician in the late Qing Dynasty. Also read as "Hyou Keifun." He was from Wu County (Suzhou), Jiangsu Province. His pen name was Lin Yi, and his pen names were Jingting and Deng Weishanren. He was a scholar in the 20th year of the Daoguang era (1840). He was appointed as the Right Chunfang Right Middle Manager by the editor of the Hanlin Academy. He was well acquainted with Lin Zexu, was knowledgeable about economics, and was involved in the practical aspects of his hometown. He was a friend of Li Hongzhang and participated in the Restoration of Tongzhi, advocating modern policies for enriching the country and strengthening its military.
