An occupational accident is an injury, illness, or death of a worker caused by constructions, equipment, raw materials, gas, steam, dust, etc., related to the worker's employment, or due to work activities or other duties. Work accidents refer to various measures and activities aimed at preventing such accidents, as well as ensuring the safety and health of workers by properly managing the working conditions and environment so that workers can work comfortably and managing their health. The content and standards are set by related laws and regulations, mainly the Labor Standards Act and the Industrial Safety and Health Act (described below), and each workplace must not only comply with these laws, but also take detailed measures to improve safety and health standards. 労働者の就業にかかわる建設物,設備,原材料,ガス,蒸気,粉塵(ふんじん)などにより,または作業行動その他業務に起因して労働者が負傷し疾病にかかり,または死亡することを労働災害というが,それを未然に防止することはもちろん,さらに労働者が快適に作業できるよう作業条件・環境を適正に整備し併せて健康管理を行い労働者の安全と健康の確保を目的とする諸施策や活動をいう。その内容・基準については,労働基準法や労働安全衛生法(後述)を中心とする関係法規が定めているが,各事業場ではそれを遵守することはもちろん,さらに安全衛生水準向上のためきめ細かな対策が必要となる。
