A former town in Kita Matsuura District, northern Nagasaki Prefecture. Occupying an island at the mouth of Imari Bay, Shiohama in the center developed as a coal mining town from the mid-Meiji period onwards, but all the mines were closed due to the coal market depression. Mandarin orange cultivation and camellia tree planting are thriving. Connected to Hatazu, Imari City, Saga Prefecture, by the Fukushima Ohashi Bridge. 長崎県北部,北松浦郡の旧町。伊万里湾口に浮かぶ島を占め,中心の塩浜は明治中期以降炭鉱町として発展したが,その後石炭不況により,すべて閉山。ミカン栽培,ツバキ樹増植が盛ん。佐賀県伊万里市波多津とは福島大橋で連絡。2006年1月北松浦郡鷹島町と松浦市へ編入。17.22km2。3408人(2003)。
