Japanese: ユゴイ(湯鯉) - ユゴイ（英語表記）Kuhlia marginata

A fish of the family Polycarpidae (illustration) in the order Perciformes. It is found in tropical and subtropical areas of the western Pacific Ocean, from southern Japan to Taiwan, the Philippines, the East Indies, and Polynesia, and lives in brackish and fresh water. Pond Jyo in Ito, Shizuoka Prefecture, was a famous habitat for this fish, but in recent years, its presence has not been confirmed. Local names include Mikyu in Okinawa, Miko in Tanegashima, Mesada in Yonaguni Island, and Kaaramiihikari in Ishigaki Island. It is small, with a total length of about 20 cm. The body is silvery white, with scattered black spots except for the abdomen. The upper and lower edges of the caudal fin are white, and the rear edge is bordered with a black band.

スズキ目ユゴイ科の魚（イラスト）。南日本から台湾，フィリピン，東インド諸島，ポリネシアなど西部太平洋の熱帯，亜熱帯に分布し，汽水および淡水にすむ。静岡県伊東の浄の池は有名な生息地であったが，近年その生息が確認されていない。地方名には沖縄のミキュー，種子島のミコ，与那国島のメサダ，石垣島のカアラミイヒカリなどがある。小型で全長約20cm。体は銀白色で，腹部を除き黒色斑点が散在する。尾びれの上下両縁は白く，後縁は黒色帯でふちどられる。
