Japanese: バセンジー[種]（英語表記）Basenji

A hunting dog originating from Africa. It has been bred in the Congo region since ancient Egyptian times, and thanks to the lack of development of transportation, its purity has been well preserved. It is known as the world's only "non-barking dog," never barking except for a slight cry of joy when in ecstasy. It has a gentle and cheerful disposition. Its coat is short and smooth, and its color can be chestnut, black, or black and tan. The tips of its toes, chest, and tail are white. Males are about 35 cm tall and weigh about 10 kg, while females are slightly smaller.

原産地がアフリカの鳥獣猟犬。コンゴ地方で古代エジプト時代から飼育されており，交通が発達しなかったことが幸いして純粋性がよく保たれてきた。世界で唯一の〈ほえない犬〉として知られ，狂喜のときわずかに喜び声をもらすだけで，決してほえ声をあげない。性格は穏和で朗らか。被毛は短く滑らかで，毛色は栗色，黒色，またはブラック･タン(黒と茶褐色)など。趾端（したん），胸前，尾の先端は白い。雄は体高約35cm，体重約10kgで，雌はやや小さい。
