〘Noun〙 A folk song sung to celebrate a big catch, to celebrate before a big catch, or as a prayer. There are songs in various places, but the one in Choshi, Chiba is famous. It is in the form of a counting song, and is said to have originated when a big catch of sardines was caught off the coast of Choshi in 1864 ( Genji 1 ), and a big catch festival was held at Kawaguchi Myojin, the local shrine, when fishermen Ajiro Kyusaburo and Matsumoto Kyokue donated the song. *Largely expanded and revised version, Kore wa Bensida (1936) by Shimonaka Yasaburo, "Dairefubushi Tairyobushi" Source: The Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary About the Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary Information |
