Tomomitsu Yuki

Tomomitsu Yuki

A military commander in the early Kamakura period. Son of Oyama Masamitsu. Ranked as Saemon-no-jo, Kozukenosuke, and Junior Fifth Rank. In 1180 (Jisho 4), he came of age as an adopted son of Minamoto no Yoritomo. In 1183 (Juei 2), he was awarded Shimousa's Yuki District (Yuki City, Ibaraki Prefecture) for his contributions in the Shida Yoshihiro Rebellion, and took the name of the Yuki clan. In 1189 (Bun'ei 5), he distinguished himself in the subjugation of the Oshu Fujiwara clan and was awarded the Mutsu Shirakawa Manor. In 1195 (Kenkyu 6), he gained fame by quelling the riots of the monks during the reconstruction and memorial service of Todaiji Temple. In 1299 (Shoji 1), he impeached Kajiwara Kagetoki together with Miura Yoshimura and others, and also distinguished himself in the Wada Yoshimori Rebellion (1213) and the Jokyu Rebellion (1221), and in 1235 (Kasei 1), he was listed as a member of the Hyojoshu. He died on February 24, 6th year of Kencho, at the age of 87. His posthumous name was Nichia.

鎌倉時代初期の武将。小山政光(おやままさみつ)の子。左衛門尉(さえもんのじょう)、上野介(こうずけのすけ)、従(じゅ)五位下。1180年(治承4)源頼朝(よりとも)の猶子(ゆうし)として元服。83年(寿永2)志田義広(しだよしひろ)の乱の功で下総(しもうさ)結城郡(茨城県結城市)を与えられ結城氏を称した。89年(文治5)奥州藤原氏討伐に功をたて陸奥白河庄(むつしらかわしょう)を得、95年(建久6)東大寺再建供養のとき、衆徒の騒動を鎮め名声をあげた。99年(正治1)三浦義村(よしむら)らと梶原景時(かじわらかげとき)を弾劾、また和田義盛(よしもり)の乱(1213)、承久(じょうきゅう)の乱(1221)でも功をたて、1235年(嘉禎1)には評定衆(ひょうじょうしゅう)に列せられた。建長(けんちょう)6年2月24日、87歳で没。法名は日阿。
