Heliopsis helianthoides (L.) Sweet

Japanese: キクイモモドキ(英語表記)Heliopsis helianthoides (L.) Sweet
Heliopsis helianthoides (L.) Sweet
A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family, also known as dwarf Jerusalem artichoke. It was named after the fact that it does not have a tuber, similar to the Jerusalem artichoke, which has a tuber underground. Native to North America, it is distributed in Ontario, Florida, Illinois, etc., and was introduced to Japan in the mid-Meiji period. It grows to a height of 1.5m, branches from the base, and grows in a clump, with the entire plant being hairless and having egg-shaped leaves with coarse serrations that grow opposite each other. From July to October, it produces many yellow corymbs of flower heads about 5cm in diameter at the top of the stem. The dwarf pitcheriana species is widely cultivated, but there is also the large-flowered grandiflora species.
