Japanese: 失業率 - しつぎょうりつ（英語表記）unemployment rate

The figure is the number of unemployed divided by the labor force. In Japan, it is also called the unemployment rate, and indicates the percentage of the labor force who are completely unemployed. The word "completely" no longer has any special meaning. According to the Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the definition of a completely unemployed person is "a person who has not worked at all because he/she was unemployed, who is able and willing to work, and who is searching for work, and who is ready to start work if there is a job available, and who is waiting for the results of a job search that he/she conducted in the past." The unemployment rate is higher than the average for young people (ages 15-24). The unemployment rate in 2006 (annual average, seasonally adjusted) for the total age group was 4.1%, but for the 15-24 age group it was 8.0% (Labor Force Survey, Statistics Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications).

失業者数を労働力人口で除した数値。日本では完全失業率ともいわれ、労働力人口に占める完全失業者の割合を示す。なお、この「完全」の文字には今では特別な意味はない。完全失業者の定義は、総務省統計局によると「仕事がなくて少しも仕事をしなかった者のうち、就業が可能でこれを希望し、かつ仕事を探していた者及び仕事があれば、すぐ就ける状態で過去に行った求職活動の結果を待っている者」となっている。若年者層(15〜24歳)で、平均値よりも高くなっている。2006年の完全失業率(年平均、季節調整済み)は、年齢合計では4.1%だが、15〜24歳層は8.0%となっている(総務省統計局「労働力調査」)。
