A general term for animals in the genus Lagothrix, family Capuchin, order Primates, class Mammalia. The genus Lagothrix is ​​divided into two species: the Humboldt woolly monkey L. lagothricha and the Hendy's woolly monkey L. flavicauda . The former is very popular in the middle and upper reaches of the Amazon, while the latter lives only in a very limited area of ​​the Andes Mountains in Peru. Both species are large among the Capuchin family, weighing about 10 kilograms, with a head and body length of 41 to 58 centimeters and a tail length of 56 to 73 centimeters. They have a sturdy build with well-developed muscles and dense woolly hair. For this reason, they are also called the 'Yellow Monkey'. The underside of the tip of the tail is hairless, and they have a strong grasping power and can hang by their tail alone. They particularly like fruit, but also eat leaves and insects. They live in well-organized groups of about 10 to 50 individuals. The range of a flock is large, covering an area of ​​4 to 5 square kilometers.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱霊長目オマキザル科ウーリーモンキー属に含まれる動物の総称。同属Lagothrixは、フンボルトウーリーモンキーL. lagothrichaおよびヘンディーウーリーモンキーL. flavicaudaの2種に分けられる。前者は、アマゾン中流から上流域では非常にポピュラーなサルであるが、後者はペルー領アンデス山地のごく限られた地域にのみ生息する。両種ともオマキザル科のなかでは大形で、体重約10キログラム、頭胴長41～58センチメートル、尾長56～73センチメートル。体格はがっしりとして筋肉の発達がよく、羊毛状の体毛が密生している。このためヨウモウザルともよばれる。尾の先端下面には毛がなく、把握力が強くて、尾だけでぶら下がることができる。とくに果実を好むが、葉や昆虫も食べる。十数頭から50頭ぐらいのよくまとまった群れをつくって生活する。群れの行動域は広く、4～5平方キロメートルに及ぶ。
