Autumn crabgrass - Autumn crabgrass

An annual grass of the grass family (APG classification: Poaceae). The spikelets are egg-elliptical, about 2 mm long, slightly blunt, and covered with tiny rod-shaped hairs. The second glume is slightly shorter than the length of the spikelet, and at maturity the fourth glume turns brown or dark brown and is exposed. It grows in grasslands throughout Japan and is also distributed in China.

イネ科（APG分類：イネ科）の一年草。小穂は卵状楕円(だえん)形で、長さ約2ミリメートル、やや鈍頭、全面に棒状の微小毛が生える。第2包穎(ほうえい)は小穂の長さよりやや短く、成熟期は第4包穎が褐色かまたは黒褐色に変色し、露出する。日本全土の原野の草地に生え、中国にも分布する。
