Japanese: 圏構造 - けんこうぞう

A zone or region has roughly the same meaning as the academic term region in geography, and refers to a space that has a unity as a whole. The unity depends on whether the constituent parts of the zone have some commonality or are interconnected with some center. For example, the former would be the Islamic world, where all the countries that primarily practice Islam are collectively referred to as such, while the latter would be the metropolitan area, which refers to the area that is connected with Tokyo at its center. The term sphere structure is used to focus on the structure of the zone, and is often used when the zone is connected by a single center.

圏または圏域とは地理学の学術用語として用いられる地域とほぼ同じ意味で，全体として一体性をもつ空間をいう。その一体性は，圏域の構成部分がなんらかの共通性をもつか，またはなんらかの中心に対して相互に結び合わさっているかによる。例えばイスラムを主として信じている国をまとめてイスラム圏という場合は前者の例であり，東京を中心として結びあっている範囲を首都圏とよぶのは後者の例である。　圏のまとまりが，どのような構造になっているかに着目して圏構造の言葉が使われるが，それは，とくに一つの中心によって結び合っている場合にいわれることが多い。
