Liquid paraffin - Ryuudou Parafin (English spelling) liquid paraffin

Also known as white oil, it is a tasteless, odorless, colorless, transparent oil whose main components are naphthenic hydrocarbons. It is obtained by refining the oil distilled from the atmospheric distillation residue of petroleum under reduced pressure and filtering out the wax. Its boiling point is over 300°C and its specific gravity is 0.85-0.94. There are industrial and pharmacopoeial liquid paraffin, the latter of which is highly refined and used in creams, baby oil, hair oil, etc. The industrial type is used in precision machinery oils, polystyrene lubricants, and fabric softeners for synthetic fibers.

ホワイトオイルともよばれる無味、無臭、無色透明の油で、ナフテン系炭化水素が主成分である。石油の常圧蒸留残油を減圧蒸留して留出した油を精製し、ろう分を濾過(ろか)分離して得られる。沸点は300℃以上で、比重は0.85～0.94である。流動パラフィンには工業用および薬局方流動パラフィンがあり、後者は高度に精製したもので、クリーム、ベビーオイル、ヘアーオイルなどに用いられる。工業用のものは、精密機械油、ポリスチレンの滑剤、合成繊維の柔軟仕上げ剤などに用いられる。
