Nashiki Shrine - Nashiki Shrine

Japanese: 梨木神社 - なしのきじんじゃ
Nashiki Shrine - Nashiki Shrine

The shrine is located in Teramachi-dori Hirokojiagaru, Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto City. The deities enshrined are Sanjo Sanetsumu and Sanetomi, father and son. Sanetsumu (1802-1859) assisted Emperor Komei as Minister of the Interior and made great efforts in issues such as the Imperial sanction of treaties and the Shogun's succession at the end of the Edo period, but retired after the Ansei Purge. Sanetomi followed his father's wishes and worked hard to restore imperial authority and expel foreigners from Japan by forming an alliance with Choshu (Yamaguchi Domain). After the Meiji Restoration, he contributed to the new government as a senior official, including as Prime Minister. In 1885 (Meiji 18), a shrine was built on Sanetsumu's former residence and became a special government-sponsored shrine, with Sanetomi being enshrined in 1915 (Taisho 4). The annual festival is held on October 10th.
