...He served as Prime Minister for the next 20 years, and after announcing his policy of rule by force in January 1925, he established a fascist regime and seized dictatorial power. While maintaining a balance between the various trends within fascism and replacing ministers from time to time, he maintained the highest position as Duce (derived from the Latin dux, meaning leader). However, as defeat in World War II became more likely, criticism from political, financial, and military circles increased, and on July 24, 1943, the Grand Council of Fascism passed a motion of no confidence.
