Legend of the Boxwood

Japanese:
Legend of the Boxwood
This is a tale of a divine marriage between Tsuge-senhime (Yamabime) and Umashine, a fisherman from Yoshino. The story goes that a branch of a hawk (a type of mountain mulberry) gets caught in Umashine's pier and transforms into a beautiful woman, who eventually lives with him and later ascends to heaven, but there is a lack of documentation that can provide the full story. The story is recorded as "Tsuge-den" in the left footnote of Volume 3 of the Manyoshu, and there are also related entries in the Kaifu-so and Shoku Nihon Kōki. It appears that it was originally a Chinese biography with a taste for immortals.
