…These nobles could be messengers sent from the central government or provincial governors who had arrived at their destinations, and when they arrived at their destinations, the people would go to the border of their community to welcome them (called sakamukae), and for the first time from that day onwards, they would be treated to three consecutive nights of food and drink, and would be presented with a large number of gifts. In the past, this hospitality was called kugou (supply), and later it was called ochitsuke mitsukakuriya (restaurant cooking for three days), and it was a service given by the community to nobles, guests, and visitors. Supply (kyokyuyu) means providing goods when there is demand, and in this case, the types of goods provided, such as food, oil, and electricity, are not particularly limited, and the recipients are general users and consumers, that is, an unspecified number of people. Therefore, when 'supplying A (goods) to B (recipient)', 'to B' is usually omitted and not said. …
