Glavlit (English spelling)

Japanese: グラブリト（英語表記）Glavlit

The censorship agency of the Soviet Union. It was an abbreviation for the General Directorate for Literature and Publications (Glavnoe upravlenie po delam literatury i izdatel'stv). It was established in 1922 as an agency of the People's Commissariat of Education, and its initial purpose was to unify the various censorship procedures for publications, and to provide pre- and post-censorship and supervision for the protection of the political, military, economic, and cultural interests of the Soviet Union. The General Directorate was also given the authority to draw up annual publishing plans and regulate the import of foreign publications, and at one time even controlled radio broadcasting.

ソ連邦の検閲機関。文学･出版総局Glavnoe upravlenie po delam literatury i izdatel’stvの略称。1922年，教育人民委員部の一機関として創設され，当初の目的としては，出版物に対する各種検閲の統合，ソ連の政治･軍事･経済･文化的利益の擁護のための事前･事後の検閲，監督がかかげられた。総局には年次出版計画の策定，外国出版物輸入規制の権限も与えられ，一時はラジオ放送もその管理下に置かれた。
