Kitano [town] - Kitano

Japanese: 北野[町] - きたの

A former town in Mii County in the central-southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture. Located in the fertile Chikushi Plain in the middle reaches of the Chikugo River, it is an agricultural region that produces a lot of rice and wheat, and also thrives in vegetable cultivation. The main settlement developed from Torimae-cho, near Tenmangu Shrine, and the Nishitetsu Amagi Line runs through the area, so many people commute to Kurume City. In February 2005, it was incorporated into Kurume City along with Tanushimaru-cho in Ukiha County, and Jojima-cho and Mizuma-cho in Mizuma County. 20.49 ^km2 . Population: 17,744 (2003).
