This old town occupies Daikon Island and Eshima Island to the east of Daikon Island in Lake Nakaumi, Yatsuka District, Shimane Prefecture. They cultivate flowers, mainly peonies, and also produce medicinal ginseng and tobacco leaves. The town is popular with tourists in May when the peonies flower. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Matsue City along with Kashima Town, Shimane Town, Mihonoseki Town, Tamayu Town, Shinji Town, and Yakumo Village in Yatsuka District. 34.13 km2 . 4,664 people (2003).
