Yachitsuji (English name) leather leaf

Japanese: ヤチツツジ（英語表記）leather leaf

An evergreen shrub of the Ericaceae family that grows in marshes in cold regions. The stem branches and spreads, reaching a height of 0.3-1m. The leaves are alternate, leathery, oblong, 1.5-4cm long, 0.7-1.5cm wide, and have dense circular scale-like hairs on both sides. The leaves at the top of the branches gradually become smaller. In May and June, one white flower faces downward from each side of the upper leaves, forming a raceme. The calyx is divided into five lobes and has two bracteoles at the base. The corolla is tubular with five shallow lobes at the tip, 6-7mm long. There are 10 stamens. The anthers are tubular with two lobes at the tip, and open at the tip.
