Stefano Jacini

1827‐91
Italian politician. After graduating from the University of Pavia, he published an excellent book on agriculture in Lombardy. Influenced by Cavour, he entered politics in 1860. From 1864 to 1867, he served as Minister of Public Works under the La Marmora and Ricasoli cabinets, and worked hard to expand the railway and road networks. In 1870, he became a senator, and from 1877 to 1884, he presided over Italy's first large-scale agricultural survey, which was carried out on a nationwide scale (published from 1881 to 1886). This survey, which revealed in detail the actual state of backward Italian agriculture, is widely known as the Jacini Survey.

イタリアの政治家。パビア大学卒業後，ロンバルディア農業に関するすぐれた著作を発表。カブールの影響を受けて，60年に政界に入る。1864‐67年ラ･マルモラとリカーソリの両内閣のもとで公共事業大臣を務め，鉄道･道路網の拡張などに尽力する。70年上院議員，77‐84年には全国的規模で実施されたイタリアで最初の大農業調査(刊行は1881‐86)を主宰。後進的なイタリア農業の実態を詳細に解明したその調査は，ヤチーニ農業調査として広く知られている。
