Hamadori - Hamadori

The name for the area along the Pacific Ocean in eastern Fukushima Prefecture. It covers the three cities of Iwaki, Minamisoma, and Soma, and the two counties of Futaba and Soma. In the past, it was called the Tokaido and Hamakaido, and served as a corridor connecting the Kanto and Mutsu regions. From the west, it has the Abukuma highlands, hills, plateaus, and alluvial plains, with a topography that is high in the west and low in the east. It has a warmer climate than the Nakadori and Aizu regions. For transportation, the JR Joban Line and National Route 6 run almost parallel to it. The Joban Expressway also runs to Tomioka Town in Futaba County, and between Minamisoma and Soma. The northern part of the prefecture is mainly agricultural, but from the central to southern parts, nuclear power plants have been built on the coast, and industry is thriving, centered around Iwaki City. It accounts for about 22% of the prefecture's total area, and about 27% of the population (2010).

福島県東部の太平洋沿いの地域の呼称。いわき、南相馬(そうま)、相馬の3市と双葉(ふたば)、相馬の2郡の範囲。古くは東海道(ひがしかいどう)、浜海道といい、関東と陸奥(むつ)を結ぶ廊下的役割をなした。西から阿武隈(あぶくま)高地、丘陵、台地、沖積地となり西高東低の地形を示す。気候は中通り、会津に比して温暖である。交通はJR常磐(じょうばん)線、国道6号がほぼ並行して走る。また常磐自動車道が双葉郡富岡(とみおか)町までと、南相馬―相馬間が通じている。北部は農業が中心であるが、中央部から南部にかけては沿岸部に原子力発電所が建設され、いわき市を中心に工業も盛ん。面積は県全体の約22％、人口は約27％（2010）を占める。
