Yasutomi's Chronicle

Yasutomi's Chronicle

This is the diary of Gon Daigeki Nakahara Yasutomi (1400-57). It has been extant in parts from 1417 (Oei 24), when his father Hidetaka died, until 1455 (Kosho 1), when he was 56 years old. It contains not only articles about the Imperial Court, but also many about matters in the city. The position of Gon Daigeki, which belongs to the Shonagon Bureau of the Daijokan (Grand Council of State), is a low but important position, and has been hereditary for generations, both in the Kiyohara and Nakahara clans. However, Yasutomi's family was originally from the Minamoto clan, and from the end of the Kamakura period, they called themselves the Nakahara clan and were appointed as Gon Daigeki for generations, with the highest position being Gon Daigeki, and they were usually appointed as Hyuga no Kami and Hayato no Kami. The 92 volumes of the handwritten version are currently held by the National Diet Library, along with one volume of his father Hidetaka's diary. Included in "Shiriryo Taisei."
