A former town in Shiso District, central-western Hyogo Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Hayashida River, a tributary of the Ibo River. Many cedar forests have been planted here since ancient times, and forestry is practiced there. Rice, wheat, soybeans, and flowers are also produced here. Potholes can be seen in the riverbed upstream of the Hayashida River. In March 2006, it was incorporated into Himeji City along with Yumesaki Town, Ieshima Town, Shikama District, and Koji Town, Kanzaki District. Area: 60.30 km2. Population: 5,989 (2003). 兵庫県中西部,宍粟(しそう)郡の旧町。揖保(いぼ)川の支流林田川の上流域を占める。古くから植林されたスギ林が多く林業を行う。米,麦,大豆,花卉(かき)も産する。林田川上流の河床には甌穴(おうけつ)が見られる。2006年3月飾磨郡夢前町,家島町,神崎郡香寺町と姫路市へ編入。60.30km2。5989人(2003)。
