A former town in Shiso District, central-western Hyogo Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Hayashida River, a tributary of the Ibo River. Many cedar forests have been planted here since ancient times, and forestry is practiced there. Rice, wheat, soybeans, and flowers are also produced here. Potholes can be seen in the riverbed upstream of the Hayashida River. In March 2006, it was incorporated into Himeji City along with Yumesaki Town, Ieshima Town, Shikama District, and Koji Town, Kanzaki District. Area: 60.30 km2. Population: 5,989 (2003).
