1502?‐53 English soldier. In 1538 he became Lieutenant-General of Calais, and in 1542 he became Warden of the Scottish Borders and Viscount Lille. In 1547 he became regent for Edward VI along with the Duke of Somerset, and was Earl of Warwick. He was credited with repelling the Scottish army, and in 1549 he suppressed Kett's Rebellion. In 1551 he became a duke, ousted the Duke of Somerset, and in 1553 he tried to place his stepdaughter, Lady Jane Grey, on the throne, but failed, and was executed.
