NGC5139 is a globular cluster in the southern constellation Centaurus. It is a large and bright globular cluster that spans over 15' and has a total brightness of 3.6 magnitude. It is a celestial object that can be seen with the naked eye, so it is named after the star Omega Centauri. The cluster is made up of tens of thousands of stars and has a spherical shape, which is why it is called a globular cluster. There are so many stars packed together that it is impossible to separate and observe individual stars in the center. The stars in this cluster were formed 10 billion years ago, shortly after the birth of the Milky Way Galaxy.

NGC5139。南天のケンタウルス座にある球状星団。15′あまりに広がっていて，全体の明るさが3.6等級と大きくて明るい球状星団である。肉眼でも見える天体であるので，ケンタウルス座のω星という星の名まえがつけられている。星団は数万個の星々で構成され，球状を呈しているので球状星団と呼ばれている。あまりに多くの星々が密集しているので，中心部分では個々の星を分離して観測できない。この星団の星々は，銀河系が誕生してからまもない百数十億年前にできたものである。
