〘Noun〙 One of the prisons of the Edo Shogunate. It was located in Rokkaku in Kyoto and Kodenmacho Prison in Edo. It was a solitary cell for untried hatamoto prisoners with a stipend of 500 koku or less and who had an audience with the shogun or higher. Women from families with an audience with the shogun or higher, as well as monks and priests, were also held there depending on their rank. → Agariya. 〘名〙 江戸幕府の獄舎の一つ。京都では六角、江戸では小伝馬町牢屋敷の内に置かれた。五百石以下御目見(おめみえ)以上の旗本の未決囚を入れた独房。女でも御目見以上の家のもの、また僧、神主も官位により収容された。→揚屋(あがりや)。〔諸例類纂‐五・牢屋秘事録（古事類苑・法律五一）〕
