Corona Borealis (English spelling)

Japanese: かんむり座(冠座) - かんむりざ（英語表記）Coronae Borealis

Abbreviation: CrB. A small constellation in the northern sky. Its seven stars are arranged in a beautiful semicircle reminiscent of a crown, making it instantly recognizable. Alpha star is also called Gemma (pearl). Its Arabic name is Alpheca, meaning chipped dish. It is a cream-colored star with a brightness of 2.3 magnitude and spectral type A0. When observed with a telescope, this star is a spectroscopic binary and an Algol-type variable star, but its brightness hardly changes, so it cannot be seen with the naked eye. In Japan, this star rises to the zenith in early summer, and its Japanese names include "Taiko Star," "Hettsui Star," "Chiyoji no Kamado," and "Oni no Kama."

略号CrB。北天の小星座。7個の星が王冠を連想させる美しい半円形に並びひと目でそれとわかる。α星はゲンマ(真珠)とも呼ばれる。アラビア名はアルフェカで欠け皿の意味である。明るさは2.3等，スペクトル型A0のクリーム色の星である。望遠鏡での観測では，この星は分光連星でアルゴル型の変光星であるが，明るさはほとんど変化しないので肉眼ではわからない。日本ではこの星は初夏の天頂に昇りつめるが，〈太鼓星〉〈へっつい星〉〈長者のかまど〉〈鬼のかま〉などの和名がある。
