Japanese: 矢板[市] - やいた

A city in central Tochigi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1958. It occupies the basin of Uchikawa, a tributary of the Naka River, and the southeastern foot of Takaharu Mountain. The district office was established in the city center after the Meiji period, and with the opening of the Tohoku Main Line, it developed as the administrative center of the north of the prefecture and a distribution center for goods. It was a rural city mainly engaged in rice, livestock, and vegetable cultivation, but in 1973 the Tohoku Expressway was opened, an industrial complex was developed, and large electrical equipment companies were attracted, turning it into a rural commercial and industrial city. The foot of Takaharu Mountain is part of Nikko National Park, and there is a large colony of Renge Azalea in Happogahara. The city suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 170.46 ^km2 . Population: 35,343 (2010).

栃木県中部の市。1958年市制。那珂川の支流内川の流域と高原山南東麓を占める。中心市街は明治以降郡役所設置，東北本線開通により県北の行政中心，物資集散地として発展。米作，畜産，野菜栽培を主とする農村都市であったが，1973年東北自動車道が開通，工業団地が造成され，電気機器の大企業が誘致されて，田園商工業都市となった。高原山麓は日光国立公園に属し，八方ヶ原にはレンゲツツジの大群落がある。東日本大震災で，市内において被害が発生。170.46km²。３万5343人（2010）。
