...A hot spring located in the northwest of Gunma Prefecture, in the northern part of Nakanojo Town, Agatsuma County. It is a collective name for the four hot springs of Onsenguchi, Yamaguchi, Arayu, and Hinatami, which face the valley of the upper reaches of the Shima River, and is also called Shima Onsenkyo. The hot springs have a long history, and it is said that they were discovered by Usui Sadamitsu, one of the four heavenly kings of Minamoto no Yorimitsu, or that Sakanoue no Tamuramaro established a hot spring inn there when he conquered Oshu. Along with Ikaho and Kusatsu, they were known as famous hot springs in northern Kanto. ...
