Japanese: 加入儀礼 - かにゅうぎれい（英語表記）initiation ceremony

It is also called an initiation ceremony or initiation rite. It is one of the rites of passage performed to join a male society or a mystical group, and by passing this ritual, one can acquire various status, rights, and privileges in the group after joining. It is often performed simultaneously with a relatively small number of people, and its most important characteristic is its secrecy. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish between a coming-of-age ceremony or maturity celebration and an initiation rite. The former emphasizes puberty as an important event in one's life, but does not result in joining a clear social group.

入社式またはイニシエーション儀礼ともよばれる。男子結社や秘儀的集団に加入するために行われる通過儀礼のひとつであり，この儀礼を通過することによって，加入後に集団のさまざまな地位･権利･特権を獲得することができる。比較的小人数に対して同時に行われる場合が多く，秘儀性をともなうことが最も重要な特徴である。したがって，成年(人)式または成熟祝puberty ritualと加入儀礼とは区別する必要がある。前者は，人の一生における重要なできごととしての思春期を強調はするが，明確な社会集団への加入をもたらすことはない。
