A mountain range that runs north to south along the east coast (Japan Sea side) of the Korean Peninsula, almost in the center. It is the longest mountain range in Korea, stretching 500 kilometers. It is an asymmetrically tilted mountain range, with a steep eastern slope approaching the sea and a gentle western slope that forms the wide Risei Plateau. The mountain's bedrock is granite and granite gneiss. From north to south, the Taebaek Mountains include the world-famous Mount Kumgang (1,638 meters), Mount Seorak (1,708 meters), Mount Odaesan (1,563 meters), and Mount Taebaek (1,561 meters), and low hills remain as you move south. These mountain ranges have high flat surfaces, such as 600 peaks. The eastern slope of the mountain range is called the Yeongdong Region and the western slope is called the Yeongseo Region. The saddles of the mountain range, such as Cheolryeong (685 meters) and Daegwallyeong (865 meters), were important transportation routes between the east and west in the days when transportation routes were not well developed.
