Felix Mottl

1856‐1911
Austrian conductor. He studied conducting and composition at the Vienna Conservatory. In 1876, he served as assistant conductor to Wagner at the premiere of Der Ring des Nibelungen at the opening of the Bayreuth Festival Theater, and became an ardent Wagner fan. From 1881 to 1903, he served as conductor at the Karlsruhe Court Opera, where he performed all of Wagner's music dramas and introduced operas by Berlioz and others. As a Wagner conductor, he was active in Bayreuth, London, and New York, and in 2003 he was appointed general music director of the Munich Court Opera.

オーストリアの指揮者。ウィーン音楽院で指揮と作曲を学ぶ。1876年バイロイト祝祭劇場のこけら落しで《ニーベルングの指環》初演にあたり，ワーグナーの補助指揮者を務め，以来熱烈なワーグナー･ファンとなる。1881‐1903年カールスルーエ宮廷歌劇場指揮者を務め，ワーグナーの楽劇すべてを上演したほか，ベルリオーズなどのオペラを紹介した。ワーグナー指揮者として，バイロイト，ロンドン，ニューヨークで活躍，03年ミュンヘン宮廷歌劇場音楽総監督に就任した。
