Moro Ruins - Moroiseki

Japanese: 茂呂遺跡 - もろいせき
Moro Ruins - Moroiseki

This is a Pre-Pottery Period site located in Komone (formerly Moro Town), Itabashi Ward, Tokyo. It is located on an isolated hill known as Osedoyama, facing the Shakujii River. It is about 20 meters above sea level. In 1951 (Showa 26), Meiji University and the Musashino Local Museum conducted a joint survey. Approximately 80 stone tools, including knife-shaped stone tools and carving tools, were discovered in the loam layer along with two gravel groups. Obsidian was widely used for the stone tools. This site was the first discovery of Moro-type knife-shaped stone tools, and is not only a type site, but is also famous academically as the first Pre-Pottery Period site confirmed in the southern Kanto region.
