Outlook - Tenbo

A general magazine. The first edition ran from January 1946 to September 1951, and the second from October 1964 to August 1978. Published by Chikuma Shobo. Editor-in-chief Yoshimi Usui. Other editors included Junzo Karaki and Mitsuo Nakamura, and Usui attracted attention with his bold writing in the "Prospects" column. The editorial policy kept a distance from the superficiality of the times, and the magazine collected profound essays that stared at reality from a world historical perspective and reflected on it. Watsuji Tetsuro, Yanagita Kunio, Kakehashi Akihide, Umemoto Katsumi, Nakano Yoshio, Takeuchi Yoshimi and others wrote for the magazine, Miyamoto Yuriko, Nakano Shigeharu, Takamura Kotaro, Dazai Osamu, Ooka Shohei and others contributed powerful pieces, and Shiina Rinzo made his literary debut. After the magazine was revived, Okayama Takeshi and others edited it. The Dazai Osamu Prize was established, and Yoshimura Akira, Hata Kohei and others were sent out to win the magazine.

総合雑誌。第一次は1946年（昭和21）1月～51年9月、第2次は64年10月～78年8月。筑摩(ちくま)書房発行。編集長臼井吉見(うすいよしみ)。唐木(からき)順三、中村光夫(みつお)が参画、臼井は「展望」欄で骨太の筆陣を張って注目を浴びた。時流の浮薄に距離を置いた編集方針を貫き、世界史的視圏から現実を凝視、内省する重厚な論を集めた。和辻(わつじ)哲郎、柳田国男(やなぎたくにお)、梯明秀(かけはしあきひで)、梅本克己(かつみ)、中野好夫(よしお)、竹内好(よしみ)らが筆を振るい、宮本百合子(ゆりこ)、中野重治(しげはる)、高村光太郎、太宰治(だざいおさむ)、大岡昇平(しょうへい)らが力編を寄せ、椎名麟三(しいなりんぞう)は文壇的出発を果たした。復刊後は岡山猛らの編集。太宰治賞を創設、吉村昭(あきら)、秦恒平(はたこうへい)らを送り出した。
