A payment system operated by the US venture Ripple Labs. Transactions are made using a virtual currency called XRP on the network. International remittances and trades of yen, dollars, euros, bitcoins, etc. are possible on the Ripple platform. Exchanges that receive cash from customers issue Internet claims called "IOUs." Depending on the amount held, customers can exchange them for Ripple or receive a cash refund. It was developed to function as an instant payment network for fast and cheap foreign exchange remittances. In April 2017, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank announced that it plans to use the Ripple network for international remittances from next year, and future operations are expected. On the other hand, on October 18 of the same year, Ripple Trade Japan was the first in Japan to be arrested for defrauding customers of cash in relation to Ripple transactions.
