Inductance - Inductance

In an electric circuit, or in multiple adjacent electric circuits, when the current in that circuit itself changes, or when the current in the other circuits changes, electromagnetic induction generates an electromotive force proportional to the rate of change in current. This proportionality constant is called inductance or induction coefficient. The former is called self-inductance or simply inductance, and the latter is mutual inductance. The unit is defined as 1 henry (H) for inductance that generates 1 volt of electromotive force when the current changes at a rate of 1 ampere per second. The symbol for self-inductance is L , and the symbol for mutual inductance is M.

一つの電気回路、あるいは隣接する複数の電気回路において、その回路自身の電流が変化するか、または他の回路の電流が変化すると、電磁誘導によって電流の変化割合に比例する大きさの起電力が生ずる。この比例定数をインダクタンスあるいは誘導係数という。前者を自己インダクタンスまたは単にインダクタンス、後者を相互インダクタンスという。単位は、毎秒1アンペアの割合で電流が変化するとき1ボルトの起電力を生ずるインダクタンスを1ヘンリー（H）と定めてある。自己インダクタンスの記号はL、相互インダクタンスの記号はM。
