An organometallic compound with the chemical formula CH 3 Li. It is obtained by reacting bromomethane or iodomethane with metallic lithium in ether. It is a colorless crystalline powder. It ignites and burns instantly in air. It dissolves well in ethers, but is less soluble in benzene and hexane. It is more basic and reactive than methyl Grignard reagent. It is an important compound in organic synthesis. [Tomoda Shuji] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
