Clara (English name) Sophora angustifolia

Japanese: クララ（英語表記）Sophora angustifolia

A perennial plant of the legume family. It grows in sunny places such as mountain banks. It is found from Japan to the Korean Peninsula, China, and eastern Siberia. The stems are cylindrical and upright, 60-90cm tall. The leaves are alternate and odd-pinnately compound. In early summer, long racemes appear at the ends of the branches, producing numerous yellow, butterfly-shaped flowers. The roots are used as the herb Kujin, and a decoction of the stems and leaves is used as an anthelmintic. It is said that the plant was named after the fact that it is so bitter that licking it makes you dizzy.
