Methyl Violet

A cationic purple dye in which the N- position of pararosaniline hydrochloride is polymethylated. The pentamethyl-substituted form is the main component, with tetra- and hexamethyl-substituted forms mixed in. [ I ] _Pentamethyl -substituted form: _C24H28N3 ⁺ ( _358.5 ). Obtained as a mixture of chloride and hydrochloride. Blue-purple powder. Decomposition point 137°C. Soluble in water and ethanol. Acid-base indicator (pH 0.1-2.0). A 0.1% solution in 0.2 mol L ^-1 HF is used for the extraction-photometric determination of ^AsV , ^CrVI , ^AuIII (λ _max 600 nm, ε 115000, in trichloroethylene), I- ^{, HgII} , ^ReVII , ^TlIV , and Ta (λ _max 605 nm, ε 75000, in benzene). [ II ] _Hexamethyl -substituted chloride: _C25H30ClN3 (407.99). Also known as _CIBasic Violet 3 and Methyl Violet 10B. Synthesized by heating N,N -dimethylaniline and phosgene. Green-purple powder. Decomposition point 215°C. Soluble in water, ethanol, and chloroform. Used as a neutralization indicator, optical determination of various metals and hydrogen peroxide, vital dyeing, tannin mordant for cotton, and basic dye for wool and silk. Store in an airtight container protected from light.

パラローザニリン塩酸塩のN位が多メチル化されたカチオン性の紫色染料．五メチル置換体が主成分で，四および六メチル置換体がまじる．【Ⅰ】五メチル置換体：C₂₄H₂₈N₃^＋(358.5)．塩化物と塩酸塩の混合物として得られる．青紫色の粉末．分解点137 ℃．水，エタノールに可溶．酸塩基指示薬(pH 0.1～2.0)．0.2 mol L^－1 HFに溶かした0.1％ 溶液は，As^Ⅴ，Cr^Ⅵ，Au^Ⅲ(λ_max 600 nm，ε 115000，トリクロロエチレン中)，I^－，Hg^Ⅱ，Re^Ⅶ，Tl^Ⅳ，Ta(λ_max 605 nm，ε 75000，ベンゼン)の抽出-光学的定量に用いられる．【Ⅱ】六メチル置換体塩化物：C₂₅H₃₀ClN₃(407.99)．C.I.Basic Violet 3，メチルバイオレット10Bともいう．N,N-ジメチルアニリンとホスゲンとを加熱して合成する．緑紫色の粉末．分解点215 ℃．水，エタノール，クロロホルムに可溶．中和指示薬，各種金属や過酸化水素の光学定量，生体染色，木綿のタンニン媒染，羊毛，絹用塩基性染料に用いられる．遮光した気密容器に保存する．
