In the pre-Taika period, this was a territory directly controlled by the Imperial Court and was located in the Nara Basin. It is also called the Six Agata of Yamato (Yamato no Mutsu no Agata). The six Agata (counties) of Sofu, Yamanobe, Shiki, Tochi, Takechi, and Katsuragi were particularly known as the Six Migata. Each Migata Shrine exists as a shrine listed in the Shikinaisha (Engishiki). The extent of the prefecture is unclear, but in the case of Takaichi Migata, the Takaichi Migata Shrine is located in Shijo-cho, Kashihara City, and Takaichi Migata Izakamo Kotoshironushi Shrine is located in Untei-cho, Kashihara City, so it is thought that the area was narrower than a district, being roughly the size of a township.
